Tips for a good photo
- Get the whole board in the picture, frame included.
- Hold the phone as directly above the board as you can.
- Even light is best; strong shadows across the board make checkers harder to read.
- Keep hands, cups and dice off the points if you can.
Frequently asked questions
The lines don't sit on the triangles. What do I do?
On the “Line up the board” screen, drag the four corners onto the outer corners of the end triangles. Pinch to zoom for accuracy. If the triangles run the wrong way, tap ROTATE GRID.
A point is highlighted. Why?
The app highlights anything it isn't sure about: a checker in shadow, an uneven stack, something round that may not be a checker, or a checker close to the bar. Tap the point to check or fix it.
It says checkers are missing.
Every player has 15 checkers. If fewer are found, the app asks whether the rest have been borne off. If not, it takes you back to check the position.
Can it count tall stacks?
Checkers lying on top of each other can't all be seen from above, so tall or layered stacks are highlighted for you to confirm the count.
How are pips calculated?
Each checker counts the number of the point it's on, from that player's side (1 to 24). Checkers on the bar count 25; borne-off checkers count 0.
Does it need an internet connection?
No. Everything happens on your iPhone, and your photos are never uploaded. See the privacy policy.
